Gadsden State holiday, spring convocation closing
Gadsden State Community College will be closed for the holidays Dec. 22-Jan. 3. The College will be closed until 1 p.m. Jan. 4 in order for faculty and staff to participate in the spring semester convocation and local professional development. All offices, services and departments will resume normal operations at 1 p.m. Jan. 4.
Spring 2018 registration continues at Gadsden State
Registration continues at Gadsden State Community College for the spring terms. The first day of class for the full spring and Mini I term is Jan. 10. Veterans Upward Bound to host Open House, Tech Tuesday
Gadsden State’s Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) program will Open House events from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 11 at Beck Field House on the Wallace Drive Campus in Gadsden and Jan. 16 at the Ayers Campus Learning Resource Center in Anniston. Tech Tuesday BYOD: Learn to use iPad/iPod Touch will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 23 at Beck Field House and Ayers LRC. The workshop is free to eligible military veterans and will offer assistance in learning to use the latest technology devices. Please RSVP to 256-549-8204 to register. Therapeutic Massage Program offers spring clinics
Spring semester massage clinics will open on Tuesday and Thursday at Gadsden State beginning Jan. 11. Massages will be provided by students in the Therapeutic Massage Program which is now located in Prater Hall on the Valley Street Campus. Morning appointments may be scheduled for 8:30 or 10:00 a.m. and afternoon appointments may be scheduled for 12:00 or 1:30 p.m. at a cost of $25 an hour. Call 256-549-8326 one-week prior to schedule a one-hour massage. Please leave a message with your contact information so that your appointment can be confirmed. Gift certificates for hourly massages are also available. The Therapeutic Massage Program at Gadsden State is the only nationally accredited program in the state and in most of the southeast. Electrical Tech Dept. coat drive continues
Community supporters, faculty, staff and students of Gadsden State Community College are encouraged to support area shelters and mission centers by donating new or mildly-used coats and jackets for children and adults. There is also a need for winter clothing for children and men. The annual drive is sponsored by the Electrical Technology Department and will continue through Jan. 15, 2018. Items may be dropped off at the East Broad Campus’ Electrical Technology Dept. building, Bevill Center Office #149 (Angela Ross), Ayers Campus Electrical Technology Department (Tony Thrower), Valley Street Campus (Carl Byers), Wallace Drive Maintenance Bldg. (Kathy Kendrick), Cherokee Campus (Luanne Hayes), VUB-Beck Field House (Linda Morris), Valley Street Campus (Carl Byers) or the Gadsden State Bookstore located in the One Stop Center. EMS Continuing Ed courses offered at Gadsden State
Gadsden State Community College’s Continuing Education Department is partnering with the Emergency Medical Services to provide new training and refresher courses covering various health related topics including Heartsaver/AED CPR, first aid, ACLS, EKG recognition, EMT refresher and Paramedic refresher. The courses, which are available upon request, are open to individual community members, groups or organizations.
