Language and Humanities Important Information
The Division of Languages and Humanities oversees the Honors Scholars Program. The program offers scholarships to high-achieving and talented students who are seeking intellectually-challenging and create college experiences. Potential Honors Scholar students should maintain a 3.2 GPA and have a composite ACT score of 25 or SAT score of 1200. Selection is made by the Honors Scholarship Committee. All students need at least ENG 101 to complete core requirements. Some students also need ENG 102. Courses are designed to improve written communication skills, research skills and analytical thinking. These classes transfer to four-year colleges.
All students need a sequence of literature or history as well as at least one other courses. For example, a student may take two literature classes and one history classes or two history classes and one literature class. These classes do not need to be taken in sequence.
An English concentration for an Associate in Science in General Studies will transfer to a four-year English program for students pursuing a bachelor’s degree following graduation from Gadsden State. The AS degree in General Studies with an English concentration is a solid base for degrees in communications, law, marketing, business and other job fields that require clear written and oral communication, analytical thinking and research capabilities.
