Gadsden State Continuing Education Program offers four summer courses

Gadsden, Ala. – Gadsden State Community College’s Continuing Education Program is offering four classes this summer – CPR training, drivers education, ACT test prep and photography classes.

“While offering the in-person courses, we will follow all guidelines in place to help curb the spread of the coronavirus,” said Pam Clough, director of Continuing Education. “This includes wearing a mask, practicing social distancing as much as possible, completing a wellness questionnaire, getting temperature checks and signing a waiver. We want to be able to provide wonderful educational opportunities safely.”

There are four sessions of CPR training available to anyone interested in learning the life-saving technique. Two sessions are available on July 10 with the final two offered on July 31. Session times are 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. CPR training will be held at Helderman Hall on the Wallace Drive Campus. Cost is $60.

Driver’s education is being offered in Gadsden and in Centre. There are three sessions available. All sessions are 8 a.m. to noon. The first four-day session is July 13-16 at the Joe Ford Center on the East Broad Campus. The second session is July 20-23 at Gadsden State Cherokee. And, the final session is July 27-30 at the Ford Center. The class size is limited to 12 students. Students must attend all four classes in a session to receive credit from instructor, Greg Hall. The course is $175.

During drivers education, students will drive three at a time while others remain in the classroom during the non-skills portion of the class. While driving, gloves and masks are required, and windows will be rolled down, weather permitting.

Valerie Roberts, a Gadsden State tutoring coordinator, is conducting three virtual sessions to prepare students for the ACT test. All sessions will be via video conferencing. All sessions are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 18, July 25 and Aug. 1. Students can register for the session of their choice. One session is $99. Two sessions are $150, and all three sessions are $225. Once a student registers, a confirmation email will be sent containing instructions, items needed for the class and link to the session(s).

Two photography workshops are being offered by instructor Kenneth Smith Jr. The three-day workshop is from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. July 21, July 28 and Aug. 4 in Room 115 at the Ford Center. The one-day workshop is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 25 at Gadsden State Cherokee. Cost is $60 per workshop.
