Gadsden State to host Cardinal Commit for new students

Gadsden, Ala. — Gadsden State Community College is hosting a summer orientation for new students in June. The orientation is designed to assist students with enrollment to the College, and it connects them with individuals and groups that will assist in their success and college completion.

“Cardinal Commit is a great way for new students to learn everything they can about Gadsden State so they have a smooth transition to their first days of being a college student,” said Whitney Hall, assistant director of Enrollment Services. “We are setting them up for success from the beginning.”

There are three weekday sessions to choose from: June 20 at Gadsden State Cherokee in Centre; June 21 at the Ayers Campus in Anniston and June 22 at the Wallace Drive Campus in Gadsden. A Saturday session is scheduled for June 24 on the Wallace Drive Campus. All sessions are 8 a.m. to noon.

Cardinal Commit begins with advising and class registration sessions. Students will select a block of time to meet with an advisor between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. Students may select their time upon registering for Cardinal Commit.

“A bonus to attending Cardinal Commit is that attendees get exclusive early access to fall registration,” Hall said. “These new students will be among the first to register for fall classes.”

From 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., students can take advantage of the Student Services Expo. This gives them the opportunity to connect with Gadsden State departments that can assist them as well as explore the different student-led organizations available to them. Campus tours will also be offered during this time.

The final hour is Cardinal Connection Session. New students will gather helpful tips for their first days of classes while connecting with faculty, staff, students and alumni who are eager to see them succeed.

“During Cardinal Commit, we want our new students to have the opportunity to talk to every person who will be a part of their collegiate journey,” Hall said. “We encourage our students to be persistent, to register for their classes and to learn everything they can about Gadsden State.”

“We are excited about offering the new student orientation,” she said. “All of our employees look forward to seeing our new students on campus during Cardinal Commit.”
