Ayers Campus to host Women’s History Month events
Anniston, Ala. — Gadsden State Community College’s Ayers Campus is hosting events in celebration of Women’s History Month. Events will be held in the Ayers Campus Learning Resource Center Auditorium.
The month of March was designated to appreciate and honor women for their contributions, and to recognize specific achievements women have made throughout American history.
“We are excited to be hosting three separate events in celebration of Women’s History Month,” said Toni Bishop, director of the Ayers Campus “We have great speakers lined up for our employees, students and the public.”
There are two events taking place at 12:15 p.m. March 5 and 12 that are open to the public.
Brooke Hiett will be speaking on March 5 about the importance of physical health and nutrition. She is a registered nurse who is also a CrossFit coach and nutrition coach.
“Physical health and nutrition is so important for women,” Bishop said. “I am excited to learn more infomation about this topic and apply it to my daily life.”
On March 12, Angela Walker will be speaking on the importance of women’s mental health. She is the dean of the Division of Humanities and Fine Arts and the Quality Enhancement Plan director at Talladega College.
“It is imperative that women pay attention to their mental health,” said Bishop. “Everyone needs to improve their mental health in some way. Coming to this event is a good start.”
Gadsden State female employees are invited to join a self-defense class on March 19 at 3 p.m. This event will be hosted by Gadsden Sate Police and Public Safety Department employees, Sgt. David Bankson and Officer Kathy Hollis. Attendees are asked to wear comfortable clothes for the self-defense class.
“I hope we have a lot of females take advantage of this event,” said Bishop. “This is a great opportunity for our female employees to learn how to protect themselves if they were to be put in a dangerous situation.”
