Gadsden State to host ribbon cutting for manufacturing center, BOT meeting

Gadsden, Ala. —  Gadsden State Community College is hosting a ribbon cutting following the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees meeting June 12.

The Board of Trustees will have its regular meeting at 10 a.m. in Room 109 of the new Advanced Manufacturing and Workplace Skills Training Center on the East Broad Campus. The meeting is open to the media and the public.

A ribbon cutting will be held for the center at 1:30 p.m. in partnership with the Etowah Chamber. Comments will be given by Jimmy Baker, ACCS chancellor; Dr. Kathy Murphy, president of Gadsden State; and Alan Smith, dean of Workforce Development. They also will be available for interviews at the event.

The AMC will provide a high-tech, hands-on learning environment for students seeking careers in high-demand, high-wage industries. It will house Mechantronics, Industrial Automation, Precision Machining, Mechanical Design Technology, Additive Manufacturing and Electronics Engineering. It will also be the home to a second cohort of FAME students.

The AMC is possible thanks to a $25 million statewide bond passed by the Alabama Legislature in 2020, and $12 million provided through the Educational Supplemental Appropriation Bill.
