Police, security vehicles equipped with AEDs and Narcan

Gadsden, Ala. — Vehicles belonging to the Police and Public Safety Department at Gadsden State Community College are now equipped with Automated External Defibrillators and Narcan, an opioid overdose reversal medication.

“This is a significant enhancement in our emergency response capabilities,” said Chief Jay Freeman. “This ensures that our team can promptly and effectively respond to medical emergencies across all five campuses located in three counties.”

To further strengthen the department’s readiness, a Cardinal Safety Training Program has been developed.

“This comprehensive program is available to all Gadsden State employees and includes essential training in the use of AEDs, Narcan and CPR,” he said.

Freeman said adequately equipping the emergency-response vehicles in conjunction with the Cardinal Safety program reflects the College’s commitment to the safety and well-being of those in the communities it serves.

“We are dedicated to continuously enhancing our skills and resources to ensure we can respond effectively to emergencies,” he said. “These initiatives are a testament to our proactive approach to safeguarding our campuses and supporting the health and security of everyone at Gadsden State.”
