Cardinal Foundation to host Swoop Sprint 5k
The Cardinal Foundation, a support organization of Gadsden State Community College, is hosting Swoop Sprint, a 5k run, at 9 a.m. June 8 on the Wallace Drive Campus. Monies collected during the Swoop Sprint 5k will be used for student scholarships.
“The Cardinal Foundation exists to support the mission of Gadsden State and to provide opportunities for students,” said Steve Hildebrant, president of the Cardinal Foundation Board of Directors. “This event allows us to offer three $1,500 scholarships this year, one to a student enrolled at any Gadsden campus, enrolled in a technical program or enrolled at Cherokee.”
The Gadsden Runners Club is directing with the Cardinal Foundation this year to ensure a positive race day experience. The Swoop Sprint 5k is a new course and registered in the GRC Grand Prix Series.
The 5k run will begin and end at the Beck Field House. Cash prizes will be awarded to the Top 3 overall male and female participants. First place is $100, second is $50 and third is $25. The best male and female Swoop sprinter will each receive a $25 cash prize. Medals awarded to Top 3 in each age group (excluding the overall winners). Age groupings are by 5-year increments: 0-10, 11-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69 and 70 and older. The awards ceremony will begin immediately after the results are in. Winners must be present to receive their award. Trophies and medals will not be mailed.
The preregistration fee for Swoop Sprint is $25. Members of the Gadsden Runners Club, Anniston Runners Club and Gadsden State students, faculty or staff receive a $5 discount. Registration includes an electronic chipped timing bib, goody bag, pre-race snacks and finish line food. An official race day t-shirt is guaranteed if registered by May 31.
Race day registration is $30 and is available from 7:30 to 8 a.m.; however, it does not include a t-shirt or goody bag, so preregistration is encouraged. Race day packet pick-up is available from 7:30 to 8 a.m. in the Beck Conference Center. The race starts promptly at 9 a.m.

Five levels of sponsorships are still available: Swoop! Swoop! for $2,000; Swoop There It Is! for $1,000; Swooping In! for $500 and One Fell Swoop for $250.
