Gadsden State Cherokee to host Red Cross blood drive Feb. 2 

Centre, Ala. -- Gadsden State Cherokee is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive in junction with the Cherokee County Chamber from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 2 in the Academic Building lobby located at 801 Cedar Bluff Road in Centre.  The Red Cross indicates that there is a severe blood shortage and donors of all blood types are needed to help avoid delays in lifesaving medical care for patients.  Everyone is encouraged to donate and all donors will receive a $10 Amazon e-card with email.  Appointments to donate may be made by visiting redcrossblood.org and entering the sponsor code cherokeeTo shorten the on-site processing time donors may complete the Red Cross Rapid Pass by visiting redcrossblood.org/donate-blood/manage-my-donations/rapidpass.  Donors should bring driver’s license or other form of ID. ACT Prep courses offered for spring and summer

Gadsden, Ala. – Gadsden State Community College’s Continuing Education Program is offering ACT preparation courses this spring covering four core subjects – English, reading, math and science.  Classes will meet at the Cardinal Tutoring Center located in the Inzer Student Engagement Center on the Wallace Drive Campus. One-day sessions will be from 8 a.m. to noon on Feb. 5 and March 12.  Sessions will be offered per core subject from 5 to 6:30 p.m. March 14 in English and March 15 in math; 5 to 6 p.m. March 16 in reading and March 17 in science.

Students can register for the session(s) of their choice. Registration is $99 for one-day sessions including four hours of instruction or $30 per evening class.  Once a student registers, a confirmation email will be sent containing instructions and items needed for the class.

Love & Basketball at Gadsden State Feb. 14

Gadsden, Ala.-- Gadsden State Community College’s Student Government Association will host a Tailgate Party beginning at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 14 to celebrate Homecoming 2022 with tents, yard games, treats and sweets.  Gadsden State student organizations and clubs can RSVP to jbuchanan@gadsdenstate.edu by Feb. 9 to sign-up and participate.  The community, alumni, friends and supporters of Gadsden State are invited to join the celebration and show their Cardinal spirit.  The Lady Cardinals will face the Lady Cougars of Lawson State Community College at 5:30 p.m. with the men’s game set to begin at 7:30 p.m. The crowning of the 2022 Homecoming King and Queen will take place during halftime of the Lady Cardinals game.


Gadsden State hosts student success workshops

Gadsden, Ala.--Gadsden State Community College is hosting free student success health fairs entitled “Taking Care of Me Matters.”  The first event will be from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 22 in the Inzer Student Center Breezeway and Art Gallery on the Wallace Drive Campus. A second health fair will be from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 24 on the second floor of Learning Resource Center on the Ayers Campus. 

“It is our mission to provide the tools our students need to have a successful academic career,” said Dr. Dana Davis, director of Advising at Gadsden State. “This workshop is designed to promote physical and mental wellness to help students successfully and positively deal with stressful and challenging situations they go through in life.”

Students will be able to visit vendors from various agencies and receive information concerning access to services provided as well as information related to all aspects of health care. Gadsden State offering free manufacturing training classes

Gadsden, Ala. – Gadsden State Community College’s Adult Education Services is offering a free Manufacturing Skill Standards Council Boot Camp.   Registration will be Feb. 28 through March 25 for classes set to begin April 4 at the Adult Education Building on the Ayers Campus.  The training delivery is hybrid (conducted online and in-person) with both day and evening classes offered. The 10-week intensive training is designed to lead participants to being a certified production technician through the MSSC, which is the nation’s leading industry-led training, assessment and certification organization. 

All books, materials, registration fees and certification fees are fully funded by a Gadsden State Community College Adult Education Services grant.  For more information, please visit gadsdenstate.edu/adulted to complete the interest form.


Gadsden State hosts Dual Enrollment information sessions for parents

Gadsden, Ala. – Gadsden State Community College is hosting parent information sessions for ACE Institute, the college’s dual enrollment program, Feb. 17 at Gadsden State Cherokee; Feb. 22 at the Cheaha Center Lecture Hall on the Ayers Campus; and a final session Feb. 24 in the Science Building on the East Broad Campus. The time for all three sessions is 5 p.m.

Information provided at each session will include eligibility requirements, steps to enroll, benefits of dual enrollment to students—earning college credit while in high school and access to college resources.

ACE Institute dual enrollment opportunities provide high-achieving high school students with rigorous courses beyond those offered at the secondary level to enhance college access.  An additional benefit is the scholarships that are available for eligible classes that include books and tuition.

Massage Therapy Clinics offered at Gadsden State   

Gadsden, Ala.-- Gadsden State Community College’s Massage Therapy Program is offering student clinics on Tuesdays and Thursdays for faculty, staff, students and the community in Prater Hall, Room 200 on the Valley Street Campus.  Massage therapy appointment times are 9 to 10 a.m., 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 2 p.m.  The cost is $25 an hour. Call 256-549-8326 in advance to schedule an appointment or leave a message with contact information so that appointments can be confirmed. Gift certificates for hourly massages are also available.
