Gadsden State to observe National Transfer Student Week with fairs

Gadsden, Ala. -- Gadsden State Community College is joining with other colleges and universities in recognizing National Transfer Student Week Oct. 17-21 by hosting student transfer fairs. The events will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 18 in the Allen Hall Breezeway on the Wallace Drive Campus and Oct. 19 at the Learning Resource Center on the Ayers Campus. An event was held at Gadsden State Cherokee earlier this month in conjunction with the Cherokee County College Fair for area high school students.

“October is a notable month for students interested in transferring to a four-year college or university after completing a degree at Gadsden State,” said Dr. Dana Davis, director of the Advising and Retention Center.  “This year’s Transfer Week theme is Plug into Transfer! The fairs provide a great opportunity for students to learn about various options available to them. The event is not only for those in traditional academic programs but also for students who may want to pursue an additional degree after completing a program in a technical or health science area.”

Interested students are invited to meet with representatives from over 20 colleges and universities and receive information on admissions, scholarships, financial aid and housing.  Many colleges and universities provide an opportunity for students to apply for free during this time.

“If codes are required for those colleges allowing student to apply for free, those will be available from the Advising and Retention Center and Student Support Services as well as from college representatives at the transfer fairs,” Davis said.
