Gadsden State crowns Homecoming King and Queen

Gadsden, Ala. — Gadsden State Community College students, alumni, employees and supporters gathered for the annual Homecoming game on Feb. 13. The event included a tailgate party, men’s and women’s basketball games and the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen.

Tiffany Durham of Sand Rock was elected Homecoming Queen by the Gadsden State student body. She is majoring in general studies and plans to enroll in nursing school to become a registered nurse and diabetes educator.

Kintavious Dozier of Lanett was crowned Homecoming King. The sophomore general studies major is on the Gadsden State Basketball Team, where he is the top scorer among all National Junior College Athletic Association Division I teams in the country. He will continue his education at Grambling State University, where he has secured a basketball scholarship.

Dozier and Durham were joined on the court by eight other Gadsden State students who were nominated for the court by their peers.

Austin Rana is a native of Ridgecrest, Calif. He is studying Business Administration with plans to transfer to Auburn University at the conclusion of his Gadsden State studies. He hopes to become a licensed pilot.

McKenzi Blackwell also studies Business Administration. She lives in the Black Creek Community and plans to obtain a real estate license following graduation.

Jared Slater is from Cleveland, Ga., and is majoring in Business Administration. Following graduation from Gadsden State, he will continue his studies at Jacksonville State University to pursue a degree in Business Management.

Andres Domingo from Gadsden is a general studies major who has already obtained credentials from Gadsden State, including certification as an emergency medical technician. He recently passed the advanced EMT registry. He plans to one day become a paramedic and firefighter.

Vanessa Cochran also is a general studies major. The Ringgold, Ga., resident plans to eventually transfer to JSU to major in Education. She hopes to one day assist incarcerated and paroled individuals in obtaining their GED.

Anabel Dillingham is from Savannah, Ga. After she completes coursework at Gadsden State, she plans to transfer to Auburn University to pursue a degree in Hospitality Management and Culinary Science. She aspires to one day own her own bakery.

Montez Rawlins of Anniston is a Radiography major. He hopes to continue his education and become a radiologist.

SaraLynn Boyd of Oxford is majoring in Office Administration – Medical Coding. Eventually, she will transfer to an art school to earn a degree in Illustration.

The crowning was held during the halftime of the Gadsden State women’s basketball game against Calhoun Community College. The Lady Cardinals fell to the Calhoun Community College Eagles 83-45. The men’s team was victorious with a score of 83-78.

Gadsden State will host Enterprise State Community College in one of the final home games of the regular season on Friday at 5:30 p.m. (women’s) and 7:30 p.m. (men’s). The College will honor Bobby Cooper in between the games for his over four decades of serving Gadsden State Athletics as the gameday announcer.
