Full-tuition scholarships available through the new CATALYST program

Gadsden State Community College is introducing a new program for the 2023-24 academic year that will put students on the fast track to completing their science requirements.

CATALYST is a program for first-year students pursuing a degree in one of Gadsden State’s Health Science Programs or is a pre-health student planning to transfer to a four-year university. Accepted students will receive a full-tuition scholarship for their freshman year.

“A small cohort of up to 28 students will be selected,” said Dr. Farrah Hayes, dean of Academic Services. “The small class size will increase engagement among peers and instructors and, in turn, will increase the probability for success.”

CATALYST offers four biology courses in four mini terms during the academic year.  Courses include Medical Terminology (BIO 120), Human Anatomy and Physiology I (BIO 201), Human Anatomy and Physiology II (BIO 202) and General Microbiology (BIO 220).

The program also offers bonus activities and events held exclusively for CATALYST students. Extra points will be given on applications to Gadsden State’s Health Science Programs. Visit gadsdenstate.edu/healthsciences for more information on the programs.

Eligibility for CATALYST includes:

  • Must be a first-year student for the 2023-24 academic year
  • Must apply by April 14 for the 2023 Fall Semester
  • Must have plans to be a health science major at Gadsden State or a pre-health transfer student
  • Must have an ACT score of 20 in Math and English
