Two announced as EIE winners at luncheon sponsored by GSCC

Gadsden, Ala.- The Chamber hosted its sixth annual Excellence in Education and Teachers of the Year Luncheon on May 11 at 210 at the Tracks. Gadsden State Community College was the presenting sponsor of the event.

“We are so happy to have such a strong partnership with Gadsden State,” said Christi Robinson, president and CEO of The Chamber. “Thank you to Gadsden State for your involvement with our awards ceremony and for supporting this event year after year.”

The luncheon began with the presentation of colors by the Etowah High School Junior ROTC and the singing of the National Anthem by Gadsden State’s own, Camilo Vega.

Awards were then presented to the Teachers of the Year. Winners received a hardback journal from Gadsden State as well as an award featuring original art by K-12 students.

Awards then were presented in various categories for the Excellence in Education Awards. These educators were evaluated by the Excellence in Education Committee members who chose teachers that were “particularly excellent.” Committee members from Gadsden State include Jackie Edmondson, director of public relations and marketing, and Pam Johnson, dean of institutional effectiveness, grants and special projects.

Two Gadsden State representatives received Excellence in Education Awards. Veterans Upward Bound, a TRIO program that assists veterans in meeting their academic and career goals, was named the recipient of Excellence in Veterans Services Awards. It was presented to Linda Morris, VUB academic coordinator and recruiter.

The coveted Heart of an Educator Award, also sponsored by Gadsden State, was presented to Tabitha Bozeman, an instructor in the Division of Language and Humanities.

“The Heart of an Educator is exactly as it sounds,” said Robinson. “It is a category dedicated to the most passionate and caring in education.”
