Gadsden State and Samford University team up to simplify transfer process for graduates

GADSDEN, Ala. – Gadsden State Community College and Samford University have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that will create seamless transfer pathways for Gadsden State graduates into select Samford programs. This agreement not only simplifies the transition for students but also opens doors to scholarship opportunities.

“This partnership allows our students to pursue their educational goals with confidence,” said Gadsden State President Dr. Kathy Murphy. “It reflects our commitment to providing accessible, high-quality education that supports their aspirations.”

Under the MOU, students completing designated courses at Gadsden State can easily transfer into Samford’s Organizational Leadership, Liberal Studies, Human Development and Family Science, and Public Health programs. Graduates with associate degrees will meet all general education requirements, while those without can still apply and receive credit for their completed courses.

Samford will offer a $2,000 transfer scholarship to Gadsden State graduates taking 24 credits over three semesters, with an additional $2,500 for Phi Theta Kappa members. Students pursuing STEM degrees can apply for the STEM Scholar’s Award, averaging $10,000 annually for eligible Pell Grant recipients.

“Supporting students through the transfer process is a priority,” said Murphy. “Our academic advisors and faculty can help students navigate applications and ensure their credits transfer smoothly. We are grateful to Samford University for its commitment to our students.”

Gadsden State has several articulation agreements with universities and colleges across the state, providing students a range of pathways to complete their degrees.
