Ribbon cutting to be held for new Precision Machining lab
Gadsden, AL – Gadsden State Community College and the Etowah Chamber of Commerce are hosting a ribbon cutting for the new Gene Haas Center for Advanced Machining and Engineering Technology located in the Advanced Manufacturing and Workplace Skills Training Center on the East Broad Campus. The event will be at 1:30 p.m. March 19.
It was announced in October that Gadsden State secured a $1 million grant from the Gene Haas Foundation to support the Precision Machining Program. The grant has been used to equip the lab, purchase new signage and provide scholarships and financial assistance to Gadsden State students in Precision Machining.
Gene Haas, founder of Haas Automation Inc., a leading machine tool manufacturer, founded the Haas Foundation in 1999 to support manufacturing education. The organization has also previously gifted Gadsden State funds to support scholarships for students pursuing manufacturing careers.
Dr. Kathy Murphy, president of Gadsden State Community College, and Alan Smith, vice president of Capital Projects, Community Relations and Workforce Development, will be available for interviews at the event.
