Programs of Study

Air Conditioning and Refrigeration

Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology offers students the technical knowledge and related skills that will lead them to a successful job in the field. Students are provided learning experiences that are compatible with in-field practices. Students will be able to demonstrate their ability to identify and use the various tools and instruments associated with the installation and service of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. Completers can earn an Associate in Applied Science, a certificate or short-term certificate. It is offered on the Ayers and Valley Street campuses.


Alabama FAME (Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education) Industrial Automation Technology Program

The FAME program includes a two-year technical Associate degree that combines cutting-edge curriculum that supports advanced manufacturing technology, paid working experience, along with learning highly sought after business principles and best practices of a world class manufacturer. 


Auto Collision Repair Technology

Auto Collision Repair Technology students are prepared to be skilled technicians with the latest techniques and practices used in automotive repair. The curriculum is designed to give students a broad understanding of the profession. Training is provided in refinishing automobiles, repairing and replacing panels, structural repair, glass and trim work and collision damage estimating. The program is offered on the East Broad and Ayers campuses. Completers will receive a certificate or short-term certificate.


Automotive Manufacturing Technology 

The Automotive Manufacturing Technology Program is designed for those wanting to pursue a career in the manufacturing-based industry. Students are provided with the necessary theory and hands-on training to perform as a multi-skilled, multi-craft manufacturing technician. The program, which is offered on the Ayers and East Broad campuses, focuses on industrial automation, robotics, programmable logic controllers, process control and instrumentation and manufacturing and quality systems. Students can earn an Associate in Applied Science, a certificate or a short-term certificate.


Automotive Service Technology

Gadsden State offers affordable training in Automotive Service Technology that results in a certificate or short-term certificate. Completers will become a technician capable of high-quality automotive service and maintenance. Students learn to use modern testing devices for diagnosing technical problems, and they are trained to use scientific principles and up-to-date technical information in servicing automobiles. The program is offered at the East Broad Campus.


Civil Engineering Technology

Gadsden State is the only community college in Alabama to offer the Civil Engineering Technology Program. The Associate in Applied Science degree is designed to prepare skilled technicians with the latest techniques and practices used in civil engineering fields. A certificate and short-term certificate are also offered. The curriculum is designed to provide students with a broad understanding in a profession that ranges from AutoCAD to surveying to construction applications. The program is offered on the East Broad Campus.


Construction Technology

Construction Technology, formerly known as Carpentry, offers certificates and short-term certificates to those wanting to qualify for an entry-level or better position as a carpenter in residential and commercial construction. The program is taught on the Valley Street Campus.


Court Reporting Technology

Court Reporting Technology is a 24-month program that leads to an Associate in Applied Science. Students attend year-round. Curriculum includes technical and general education courses that prepares graduates to pass the National Court Reporters Association Registered Professional Reporter certifying examination.


Diesel Technology

Students in the Diesel Technology program receive the basic knowledge and skills necessary to secure and hold an entry-level job in diesel mechanics. Completers of the program will receive a certificate.


Electrical Technology

Electrical Technology provides training in the areas of residential, commercial and industrial electrical occupations. Instruction is provided in the area of safety, good work habits, teamwork, communication skills and entry-level knowledge that enables graduates to obtain employment as a multi-craft electro-mechanical technologist. Day and evening classes are available. An Associate in Applied Science, certificate and short-term certificate are offered. The program is located on the Ayers and East Broad campuses.


Electronic Engineering Technology

Two Associate in Applied Science degrees as well as a certificate are offered in Electronic Engineering Technology. Students are trained as entry-level technicians in many fields, including industrial controls technician, electronic communications technician and biomedical equipment technician. Students should have a good math and science background. The program is located on the Ayers and East Broad campuses.


Industrial Automation Technology

The Associate in Applied Science degree in Industrial Automation Technology prepares students for employment as an industrial technician. Course work focuses in the technical areas of hydraulics, pneumatics, industrial mechanics, motor controls, electrical wiring, programmable logic controls, welding, machine tool production, preventive maintenance, safety practices, AutoCAD and HVAC. A certificate and short-term certificate are available in the program located on the East Broad Campus.


Mechanical Design Technology

Students in Mechanical Design Technology are trained to be skilled technicians who can use computer-aided drafting software and equipment. The curriculum is designed to give students training in the most widely used AutoCAD software, Pro-Engineer, SolidWorks and other software. Drafting and design standards are taught in the development of technical engineering prints in designing machinery and equipment, consumer products, buildings, fabrications, installation, sales and production. The program, located on the East Broad Campus, offers an associate degree, certificate and short-term certificate.


Mechatronics, Robotics & Automation 

Mechatronics, Robotics and Automation is a multidisciplinary field that prepares students for employment in the advanced automated manufacturing industry. Mechatronics is one of the world’s largest high-tech manufacturing fields that incorporates electrical, mechanical, and electronics. Mechatronics will teach you about electronics, motors, automation, robotics, programmable logic controllers, hydraulics, pneumatics, and troubleshooting which will make the program graduates competitive for many high wage, high demand jobs. The program is taught on the Ayers and East Broad campuses.


Precision Machining

The Precision Machining Program offers a certificate, short-term certificate and an Associate in Applied Science degree. Emphasis is placed in safety, math, measuring tools and instruments, hand and bench tools, blueprint reading, lathe operations, milling operations, layout, grinding machine operations and computer numerical control. Precision Machining is offered on the Ayers and East Broad campuses.


Salon and Spa Management

An Associate in Applied Science in Salon and Spa Management prepares students to become professionals in the cosmetology industry. Students are guided with information and skilled techniques in the art of cutting, color, chemicals, styling, skincare and nail care. Students also participate in classes on salon business skills and work ethic. The program is offered on the Ayers and East Broad campuses with a choice of pursuing an associate degree, certificate or short-term certificate.


Welding Technology

Students in Welding Technology are prepared for entry-level employment in various welding careers. Emphasis is placed on safety, blueprint reading, math and hands-on training. Intermediate and advanced training are available. The program is offered on the Ayers and East Broad campuses. Certificates and short-term certificates are available.
